Phonological Phrase Boundaries Restrictions in Lexical Access by BP Adult Speakers
نویسنده
چکیده
This study investigates the role of prosodic unit boundaries in on-line lexical access by Brazilian Portuguese adult speakers. Two types of prosodic constituents are considered: prosodic words (ω) and phonological phrases (ɸ). Motivated by French experimental results, we proposed two experiments in order to examine on-line lexical access in auditory sentences, considering that prosodic unit boundaries could help the listener to identify morphological word boundaries more easily. In a word detection task, participants were requested to press a button as soon as they heard the target word previously shown on a computer screen. The results suggest that phonological phrase boundaries were relevant cues in the constraint of lexical access, inhibiting the activation of lexical competitors whereas prosodic word boundaries were not.

Lexical Access in Persian Normal Speakers: Picture Naming, Verbal Fluency and Spontaneous Speech
Objectives: Lexical access is the process by which the basic conceptual, syntactical and morpho-phonological information of words are activated. Most studies of lexical access have focused on picture naming. There is hardly any previous research on other parameters of lexical access such as verbal fluency and analysis of connected speech in Persian normal participants. This study investigates t...
متن کاملPhonological phrase boundaries constrain lexical access I. Adult data
We tested the effect of local lexical ambiguities while manipulating the type of prosodic boundary at which the ambiguity occurred, using French sentences and participants. We observed delayed lexical access when a local lexical ambiguity occurred within a phonological phrase (consistent with previous research; e.g., [un chat grincheux], containing the potential competitor word chagrin, was pro...
متن کاملPhonological phrase boundaries constrain lexical access II. Infant data
The location of phonological phrase boundaries was shown to affect lexical access by English-learning infants of 10 and 13 months of age. Experiments 1 and 2 used the head-turn preference procedure: infants were familiarized with two bisyllabic words, then presented with sentences that either contained the familiarized words or contained both their syllables separated by a phonological phrase b...
متن کاملAccentual Phrase Boundaries and Lexical Access in French
In French, a phonological phrase (PP) can either be isomorphic with an accentual phrase (AP, [1]) or else be produced as two separate APs, when possible. The PP has also been recently found to be directly involved in lexical access processing [2], in that a PP boundary might remove a temporary lexical ambiguity. In a set of two experiments, we show here that a temporary lexically ambiguous sequ...

This study aims at examining the accentual and phrasing properties of a variety of L2 French commonly called “Français Fédéral”, a variety of French spoken in Switzerland by speakers who have a Swiss-German dialect as a mother tongue. For this, we compared the data of 4 groups of 4 speakers: 2 groups of 4 native French speakers from Neuchâtel and from Paris, and 2 groups of 4 Swiss-German Frenc...
